Hi New Member from SD with wheel problems
Hi! I was looking on the internet for information on any issues with the wheels on 2007 Buick Lucernes and found this forum. I bought this car new, I've been the only owner. At about 50,000 miles I started having problems with losing air in my tires. I brought my car in to the dealership numerous times and they kept replacing valves. I even bought new tires. Now in July, they told me the wheels were corroded. It would cost $700 to replace one or $1000 to replace all four. I don't understand how they could already be corroded. They do not use salt in the winter in SD, my car has always been in the garage, never parked outside, in 5 years I only had 50,000 miles on it and I have it regularly serviced. The mechanic at the dealership told me there had been a "memo" out about the wheels, but, I can't find anything online.
Oh and I also have to have the climate control seat module replaced for the second time and the valve cover gaskets fixed. All for approx. $2200. HELP!

Consider having a reputable tire shop grind the rims and re-install the tires using a sealant around the rims. If your rims are OEM aluminum, leaking is a common problem, even in areas not using salt on the roads. We had leaking on our Bonneville aluminum rims a year or so after purchased. The fix was the grinding of the rims, sealant on the rims and replacing the OEM Goodyear with Michelin.
I bet grinding the rims and sealant to the bead will fix your slow rim leaks.

Is it all 4 wheels or have they been able to pin the issue to just one wheel? When I worked at the Cadillac Buick dealer we had some issues with porasody which means when the wheel was made the aluminum didn't form into a solid peice allowing the air to escape from microscopic holes in the wheel. But that was usually confined to one wheel. If all 4 are leaking down I suspect your dealer is telling the truth and the surface where the tire mates to the wheel is slightly corroded and allowing air to escape. I have seen where they have cleaned the mating surface and applied bead sealand to stop the leak but it seems that the corrosion is like canser and come back in due time. The corrosion isn't always caused by salt, it can even be caused from washing your car a lot because moisture works it'* self down into the tire bead area and can't escape causing corrosion.

i second the tire shop, if for nothing else the dealer way over charges for everything. they should be able to grind the corrosion off and put some kind of sealant on it like paint or clear coat rust inhibitor. at the very worst you can get some decent aftermarket wheels for less than 150. i like bfg tires, they last longer than the goodyears and are quieter and handle better then both goodyear and michelin

Before you spend money on new wheels, take them to a wheel shop who will grind the bead seat areas, and apply a black sticky substance they use to prevent bead leaks (just like Guns suggested). Had the same thing on my Bonneville and did this 3 or 4 years ago. Haven't had the problem since.

HI! Thank you so much for your comments. My tires are steel and chrome. I mentioned Guns and your other suggestions on grinding the wheels and then sealing the tires. My mechanic said that he did that the last time I was in and said as long as my tires are not leaking air yet, to not get the new rims. He said he did the same thing for his wife'* Escalade and she hasn't had a problem in over 3 years.
As to whether it was all tires, it started with one and then occurred with two others. I was told by many friends at the time that it was due to the temperature changes. But, it kept on occurring even after the temps had changed.
I have a picture of the car, but, can't figure out how to post it on here - HA! I have gotten many, many compliments through the years on the color of this car. Especially, during the rally
Thanks!
