Hello from Savannah
Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum and just wanted to introduce myself.
I currently live in Savannah, GA and I have (or at least had) two Bonnevilles, a 92 SE (207K miles) and 96 SE (173k miles) both of which I have owned from new. These are great cars - but you already know that !
I do all my own maintenance and repairs and have been a frequent visitor to the site since I discovered it three or four months ago. I have found the site terrifically useful, to the extent that I wonder how I managed without it. That said, given how frequently I was visiting the site, I thought it was time I joined up.
Not sure about etiquette at this time, so pls let me know if the following belongs elswhere, on the site and I will be happy to re-post it.[/u]
Here'* the bad news. Last Thursday some (moronic) individual in Savannah ran a red light, probably doing about 55 mph, and whacked the 96 hard in the rear quarter panel with sufficient force to put a "twist" in the vehicle. To cut a long story short, the vehicle is now sitting in my yard, undrivable and has been totaled by the insurance co.
I am thinking of replacing it with a later model (2000 -2005) and need advice and/or info on what advantage the SLE models have over the SE'*. In particular, does the SLE have firmer suspension. Also I am looking for Side Airbags. In short is it worth looking specifically for an SLE over an SE, or are the differences simply cosmetic.
Any help or advice from members would be greatly appreciated.
Any help

Welcome to the club. Go with the SLE as it is optioned better than the SE. Side air bags were an option on the 04 SLE. Mine has them as it was a requirement for me when purchasing the 04 SLE. In 04 there was a combination SLE called the Premier Edition option package that had a lot of options for a combined price. Basically the upgraded wheels were included at no extra charge.

The SLE is definitely optioned much better than the SE, but if you want performance, and you are willing to pay a little more for gas, get the SSEi. Even more options, and the performance difference with the supercharger is positively evil...
