Coolant temp sensor Q
I was wondering if anybody had any information on the placement of the coolant sensor and the coolant temp sensor??
and why they would use separate sensors for the guage and the ecm??
i want to see the actual temp of the coolant coming out of the head not the heating circuit.
i want to have my gauge read exactly what my ecm sees
any help would be great

This isn't a Performance topic, so I'll move it to General Chat for you.
FYI, the two ECT'* read the same water jacket path. They do not read differently. I'd suspect if you identified one molecule of water or glycol, and tracked it'* path, it would pass both sensors within 2-3 seconds of each other.
I can verify this with one of my spare manifolds when I get home tonight if you'd like. Just let me know.

i looked at my spare manifold and thought the paths were different
the lower sensor reads the coolant just as it leaves the head where i think the ecm should take it measure
im not sure
if you want check yours so we can compare, this has me wondering

In the long run, it'* not going to make much of a difference (actually won't make any).
The PCM'* ECT input is only used to determine open/closed loop operation (fuel-enrichment warmup mode) and overtemp/limp mode.
I know from my scans, my two ECT'* (which I physically checked and matched to each other with a meter before selecting them for install), and my gauge and scantool both read within 5° of each other at all times. They only differ when I switch my happy box over to '160' mode to trick the PCM out of fuel enrichment with the 160 degree stat installed (cold morning use only).

thanks fo the answers im going to compile some scans this weekend if i have time
we have a big car show in the park and i have to go
ive noticed now that i am heavily modded that my car does NOT respond well being beaten on when under 160
i huccups but i dont think this is abnormal since i now other guys in the forced induction community, including a turbo, that do the same thing

You still have those 36lb injectors in there???????
In fuel enrichment mode, you are PIG rich. I mean ULTRA PIG RICH. Get them out of there. That'* ridiculous over-injected to the max. That'* why under 160 you have no power.
