Default Temp gauge question for '00 and up SSEi owners?

I've just recently(last week)bought my '00 SSEi,......I've never owned/seen a car with a temperature gauge quite like this car'*,.......start the car up cold and the gauge climbs normally to the 200 degree mark.....BUT,no matter how hard or easy I drive the car,or under what weather/outside temp conditions, with the A/C on or off,.........the temp gauge NEVER moves(stays 'pinned' right in the middle of the gauge(200 degree mark....SLIGHTly below the 200* mark....195*)!! Is this a normal ops condition for this car (I know of another '01 Bonnie SE that does the same thing),.....it'* sort of driving me wack, and am thinking about installing a mechanical temp gauge along with the factory job. Thanks for any,and all feedback.......

...I'm just wondering that if the car'* engine starts to over-heat....that the temp gauge will indicate so!?!.....or will it always stay smack dab in the middle. My GTP'* temp gauge, that I used to have, always drifted up to 210* or so every so often(like when the A/C was on and you were running in bumper-to-bumper traffic and the outside air temp was in the high 80'* or in the 90'*),then drop on down to normal when the airflow across the radiator got better.

I hope I understood this comment correctly but my 93 climbs at 200 at a cold start as well. My 97 did the same.

Totally different deal on the '00-up Bonnevilles. The temp gauge stays pinned exactly ON the 200* mark on the gauge......no matter WHAT the driving conditions are.[..strange..but true..]
My wife used to have a '97 Bonneville SE and that temp gauge(from a cold start)would climb up to 195-200* normally as well.......but (depending on your driving conditions, weather condition temperature, traffic conditions, etc)used to fluctuate up to a higher gauge reading, then fall back down to the 'normal' running position on the gauge when the fans kicked on or you got out of bumper-to-bumper traffic and got better air-flow through the radiator.[the same way the temp gauge on every other car I've ever owned did]

Normal, but I have seen it move. You have to be working it, however...

I think I was climbing mountains at the time. It moved a hair. I have no idea if it'* insensitive, or if there'* a REALLY good fan. Frankly, it'* very reassuring...

Me: "Hmm...temp gauge is in the same spot. All'* right with the world."
Hailey: "There'* smoke coming from under the hood."
Me: "Nope. Temp gauge is right at 200. All'* right with God and the world..."
Hailey: "The floorboards are melting..."
Me: "Would the car lie?"
Her: "No...but..."
Me: "Look! A ricer!"

Conversation ends.

Sounds about right, consider your self lucky, my temp gauge works so well, it never moves past 35 degrees C, yes, my car eats coolant sensors OK.... :?
