Is there a generic gauge size?
If I were to make custom gauge holders for voltage, transmission temperature, amperage, and the like, would one hole size fit all? I am disregarding those gigantic RPM ricer gauges - what'* the point of those? I've noticed some gauges may be slightly bigger, but they're for the most part all the same size. Can I get a hole saw that will give me this gauge hole size, or do I need to do some dremeling?

Is 2 1/16" a common size? I'm going to take a ruler to a gauge this evening, and I'll see if my gauges seem to be fairly the same size. The trouble I'm having is that the new gauges have gotten lost, so I can't measure them directly.

Yes, 52mm (2 1/16") is a common size. Before you make them just make sure the gauges you're using are that size. But the pre-made gauge pods you can buy are all – or mostly – 2 1/16", so I'm sure most gauges are 2 1/16."

Great! Thanks a lot! Now I just have to find if there'* a low-cost kit or the like that has a 2 1/16" hole saw. I should have an airplane cockpit-esque car very shortly!

I have a 2-1/8" hole saw for installing (nominal) 2" boat gauges...I believe I got that at Home Depot.
I would assume that car gauges (like boat gauges) have enough of a flange or bezel on the front to hide the gap.
