This is almost correct. The shift mode will default to 'Performance' which is the normal default shift mode for a car without this option. The 'Normal' switch LOWERS shift points on an SSEi. This was confirmed between an SSE and SSEi (SSE without the pod, SSEi with the pod, pods were swapped between cars).

ok, I've never tested without the switch, I was just going by the wiring diagram (page 8A-43-3 of service manual - but this is the '95 manual), I think it shows normal mode is switch open (same as switch not there?) and performance with switch closed
