Default How Much Oil?

Well, I did my first oil change today now that my warranty expired. I put the filter on wrong somehow and the gasket is hanging out. I already put all Mobil 1 in and was wondering how much of that fresh oil am I going to loose taking that filter off?

Shouldn't be no more than a pint at the most since the majority of the oil is in the pan

None if you haven't run it yet. Maybe a quart if you have. Do it fast to lose the least, and then pour the contents of the filter in (as long as you haven't run it much.

O.K. the new filter was fine. It was the old filters gasket that came off on the car and I didn't see it (dark garage). Everything is fine now and I only lost about a cup. Thanks. BTW, the filter is a Mobil 1.

That was my first guess. A friend'* friend did an oil change on his Honda Civic and had that happen, too. His daughter drove the car for about 7 1/2 miles with no oil, and now the car is dead. Good catch on that gasket! I'm sure now you'll probably check every filter. The ones that have "removable" gaskets aren't bad; it'* just that the gaskets aren't crimped on. If you keep an eye out, you can use a cheaper filter (JUST NO FRAM) with no problems.
