Actually, the mechanic did say the battery was releasing the smell. When he took it off vapors was coming out and he said that it was swelling from the sides and could have exploded. I am glad thats behingd me know since its fixed.

How bad was the swelling of the battery? I took mine off a couple weeks ago to clean and I noticed the sides of mine are very slightly swelled. Of course I don't have a smell though.
