How to test MSD Coils
Hey guys
Hope I put this in the right place.
Been offered a great deal on some little used MSD coils, but I am just wondering how to test them. Can't it be done the same way as the stock coils? Anything to watch out for?
THanks
Erik

Yep, just "ohm" them. Measure primary resistance between the two terminals at the bottom (cut a normal automotive fuse in half to use for pins if you can't get in there) and the secondary resistance between the two pins on the top. If I recall, VERY general specs for most cars is around 1-3 ohms primary and 8000-15000 ohms secondary. Look it up for your car. The MSD coils have the same, or very close resistance values and turns ratios to factory coils, as you can't really improve on the GM ones. The only way to measure voltage output is running on the scope with a test plug or a spark tester.

I prefer people to LOOK for the article they need so they can see all the other information up there that they've been overlooking.
This is why I GENERALLY don't post direct links to articles.
