Day at the races
Wednesday before last I took my folks to the Martin Speedway in Martin, Michigan. Every Wednesday is Tune and Test day. $10 to watch, $15 to run.
Anyway, they had some real nice cars running, including a 1970 GTO Judge (or Clone), a 1979 Pontiac Sunfire (tubbed and sporting a very potent V 8 ), a 1969 Mustang fastback, and, of course, some imports (not rice--due to Bills new official definition of rice) and caviliers.
These were all miss matched, a 1979 mustang ran against a dragster, newer Camaros ran against eighties Camaros, you get the picture. The most lopsided "races" were the funnycars, dragsters, motorcycles, and Snowmobiles (various races with various vehicles) vs a 4 door 1974 Dart Swinger (with a slant 6). While the fast vehicles were posting times in the 9'* and 10'* will into the 140 mph, the Swinger posted a best time of 21.67 at 66.7 mph.
But noteworthy too were the Cavelier (high 17'*), the Mitsubishi Eclipse (also high 17'*), the Mitsubishi 3000GT (must have been a non-turbo at mid-low 17'*), a ThunderChicken turbo coupe (19'*), and a plethera of other oh-so-slow cars. I wanted to pay the extra $5 and run my car, but alas they have some cockamamy rule about having to wear long pants, and of course, being that it was 94 degrees outside I chose to wear shorts.
LOL, I visited the restroom and saw two guys changing pants with each other I thought "oh boy, what have I walked in on!", but it was BECAUSE of the long pants rule that the guy in the eclipse was "borrowing" his friend'* pants between runs. They were alternating wearing the pair of pants because the other guy was running his motorcycle. I asked them what they were running and the guy with the Mitsu said it was his first time out. He was a bit embarrased about his times---it seems he thought his Eclipse was faster than that on the street!
I will be going back with 1/4 tank of Torco Race fuel and some jeans. I am currious what a stock supercharged SE with 104K on the clock will run!
