Default Serpentine belt help

I have an 03 olds bravada and am having trouble with the drive belt and ac compressor acting up. Can I bypass the ac without an problem. I don't want to did into the ac at this time and was hoping I would run into anything if I went with a shorter belt and not run it around the ac and idler pulley. Yes I know the make a ac bypass for this car but that means I still have to go in and take out the ac compressor and I really don't want to do that till spring or summer. I added a diagram of the layout that my belt runs. I'd like to hear whatever you guys have to say.

So it would go around the alternator pulley and then back to the fan. Never going down to the ac or idler.

I am not an expert on bypassing pulleys, but if you can get the right style, and length, then I don't see why you would not be ok doing that, wait for feedback from a more knowledgeable member on that before buying a belt though.

A tip.
I'd use a string or something to wrap around the pulleys path, and then measure it to get an idea of the length of belt you'd need if you do proceed.

the proper way is a a/c delete pully that way you know you have the right belt and the right belt tension for everything else. rockauto has one for 32 plus shipping and if you search there is a discount thread on here for that site

I'm with Justin. With most engines, an A/C delete pulley is needed to bypass the A/C compressor.

I just looked it up on Rockauto.com. $352 for a compressor and probably another $100 to recharge the system. He'* probably in no hurry to replace it until spring time.

I'm in no hurry to spend $500 on my daily driver. I also don't want to spend money on a bypass pulley then remove the compressor which is a pain. I'd really rather just spend $40 on a belt and get through the winter. I've found that a few people have done what I thought would work and I think I'm going to give it a shot.

Good luck man, just be sure it has good tension on it, hope it works for you, be safe, and let us know how it goes.
