key switch
Having trouble with car quitting sometimes if you move key. Dont know if could be bad lock cylinder or maybe ignition switch. Also does not want to start exactly right sometimes as if it is getting no gas or fire but will always start. Sometimes it will take two or more times before it starts and other times will start on first time. Car is starting to get irritating and not trustworthy because dont know when it will have a problem. Any advice is greatly appreciated. 1998 SLE

Sometimes security light will stay on for awhile and then usually goes out after a few miles. Car acts different at times which is really frustrating. Acts like you just turn car off when it has trouble while car is running.

Could be a intermittent problem with the VATs. Try cleaning the chip on the key. If you have a second chipped key, try that. Otherwise, you might have to bypass the VATs. Is the security light on when you have problems?

Sometimes light is on and sometimes not. Have tried two keys with same problems. Could anything else be causing problem. Just came back from 300+ mile trip and no problems but took 3 tries to get car to start the next day. After started car ran fine. Jiggled key once however and car did stall but started right back. Had same trouble last month and did not even get dash lights to come on as if no battery in car. Cleaned ignition switch with electrical cleaner and finally got car to start after security system reset itself. Cant afford to just start replacing parts.
