Default Power Antenna Draining Battery

Had this posted on the 1992 mechanical thread then saw this one ,new to site sorry.Where does the antenna pick up its power? The relay on the antenna energizes without moving the antenna, unless the key is on acc or run then it goes up and down normally. If you cycle the antenna up and down sometimes the amp draw stops the relay is dead like it should be,then cycle it again and the draw is back.On the other thread a guy mentioned power coming from the HU I don't know that abbreviation ,I will check the orange or green wire there for 12 volts but I am sure it will have it when it pulses. The only other thing that stops the draw is pulling the Maxi fuse marked horn int lmps,I have checked all the relays they seem fine, any ideas where the intermittent power is coming to the antenna relay from? Thanks Dennis

HU is Head Unit. The radio. When the key is turned on the radio comes on, this sends a signal to the antenna making it go up. Unplug the antenna and see if you have power draw problems. If you no longer have problems then the motor on the antenna may be bad.

Yes with the antenna unplugged the draw quits ,that'* why I put a new relay on the antenna yesterday as a try at fixing it.Somehow the antenna gets power around the radio I think because when you get out of the car the antenna is still under power going down with the radio already off.For now I will try turning on the radio so the antenna is up then unplugging the ant at the relay hopefully leaving it in the up position, not a fix I like but should work.I may go to the salvage yard and buy one just to try, maybe the ant thinks its not down all the way ,I don't know if this is right though because when the relay energizes when it should be not have power the antenna motor doesn't try to move.

What did you disconnect? The whole connector at the power antenna?

We need to isolate why it'* still drawing.
With everything off vehicle wide, connect mutimeter or 12v test light to ground and to terminal B on the relay. That should be the Dark Green wire. The light SHOULD NOT light up. If it doesn't. then its not the radio.
Get back to us.

Thanks all this may seem odd,had the wife come down and cycle the antenna by turning key to run, when she did I pulled on it and it went up farther,I cleaned it sprayed silicone on it cycled it up and down 10 times and for now won't repeat problem.I did notice the motor makes a little more noise when it pulls in the final 4 inches,I think it must have a cut out switch when it reaches the bottom even though it looks all the way down the motor doesn't think it is.The antenna must have some kind of always hot source also, because when you shut the door everything is off but the antenna motor still is powering the ant down.I only have a Chilton'* wire diagram and it doesn't show a power ant for 1992,also the layout for the relay center behind the glove box is different .How do you find a thread here with a picture of this relay center for a 1992 SE? I have found one for the under hood relay center but not the inside one. Thanks Dennis

Yes, the motor does have 2 sets of switches inside. One set is turned off when the antenna goes all the way up, and the other set is used when the antenna goes all the way down. You may have a sticky switch. Probably the return switch is gone bad.
You could just turn it on and let it ride all the way up and immediately disconnect the power to the antenna relay. It will always stay up, but not drain your power anymore.

Sounds like a bad motor/switch. I'm with Mike, pick up a new motor and replace it. I pulled mine last year, it'* real easy to do.
