front seal keeps leaking, need help .
hello im robert,im a new member.i have an 98 z34 which i rebuilt 30,00 miles ago.everything was goin fine, drove to work, went to break no oil under car.at lunch drove 4 miles to chow and no problems.two hours later big oil puddle coming from front seal.replaced seal twice because it had a place on the harmonic balancer.put a sleeve on that and ran it for an hour, parked.drove it 5 miles and same problem.could oil regulator cause this.i checked the pcv and it still sounds good stArts good, etc.i have no response if i un-plug map or the egr.thought that was weird.sincerely,rob.

That front seal is not under any pressure.....it basically prevents the sloshing of the oil on the chain from leaking out......
If you have a groove in the harmonic balancer, then the seal can leak, no matter how many times you replace it....if i read you correctly, you put a sleeve on the balancer to take care of the groove, it cold possibly be leaking between the sleeve and the balancer.....or possibly you need a specific seal to match the sleeve......the other question is, are you sure it'* leaking from the seal area?

thanks, and yes you can clearly see it dripping straight down from the seal.the sleeve covered the worn place in balancer.but it coul maybe come up through sleeve.kinda doubt it since it comes out so much and fast.this is why i was wondering if the oil regulator could be sending the oil back through pump or forcing the oil from the pump around the crank.since as you said there is not supposed to be pressure there.unless it is a broken ring?still if it was idling,it would build enough pressure to blow it out.once it starts to leak it really leaks.and as for the seal size,it is supposed to work according to paperwork and what i read.i thought it would take a little bigger.i dont know.i have to pull balancer again and will check oil filter housing and oil pressure reduction valve.I really appreciate the help.if you think of antthing please yell back.this really has me torn up.NO it has about 30,000 on the rebuild.i havent had any issues till now.Sincerely Rob

sorry so many questions, but im without a ride, but their is a weep hole or drain hole inside seal housing at the very bottom.what exactly is this for?and i pushed a guitar string through it to check for clog and blew air in it and it blew some oil out around crank, what little it was holding inside.just wondered if it is or could be stopped up.im grasping at straws and im sorry for or if i sound pushy.i really thank you all so very much for any help, sincerely,Rob
