1995 cadillac 4t60e transmission problem
hi niceguy thanks for this forum i found it doing a search for my problem with my
1995 cadillac deville 4.9l motor with the 4t60e gm hydra matic transmission.
the first problem is the cvjoints were replaced, then later the trans bolt were found to be loose by me
the car was staying in first gear. I found that the transmission was overfull by about 4 pints.
1) I changed the transmission fluid and filter and made sure all bolts were tight.
2) Added fluid to the transmission.
3) Warm up the vehicle then MADE car was levels
4) Checked fluid level in every gear while the vehicle was warm and running.
Problem the car drove fine for awhile but when the temperature got hot outside it started acting up
The transmission would stop pulling about 90 seconds after it started. It did this is all gears.
To move the vehicle anywhere i would have to let it drive until it stop pulling shift into neutral then shut the car off for about 20 seconds and restart it from neutral and then put it in gear to proceed to my destination...
I took my car home and dropped the transmission pan to find like plastic like stuff in the transmission filter, and the tranmission had sludge in the pan.
I will change the filter, fluid and gasket.
note: when transmission do pull it cycle thru gears 1 2 3 4 get up to seventy mph

Let us know what happens after you change the fluid and filter. When my diff failed a couple of years ago, the filter filled up with metal shavings and starved the pump, thus preventing any clutch bands from engaging. Sounds very similar to yours. Well, pump starvation anyway.
EDIT:
Just noticed this was in the Intro section. DUH!

You found plastic in the pan, OK, what color was the plastic? Kind of a whitish yellow? That'* really the only plastic in a transmission other the black from the filter and some solenoids. That plastic would come from a oil damn, or lube damn.

4t60-e
Thank you every one who replied to the 4t60-e transmission that would only go pull for 3 seconds on the streets. and around 90 on highway.
1.I jacked it up put it on stands
2. drained the fluild, inside the pan itself the fluid was a little greyish
3.when i check i noticed a piece of plastic like a .025
4.then as i shook the filter more it it came out so o cleaned the pan and the filter..
5.I then went and brought a new gasket kit and new fluid
6. installed the filter and gasket
7. installed the new fluid let it run and warm up
8 check the fluid as i cycled thru the gears on level ground!
9. i then drove the car thru the park up around the block,
10. then drove it 20 miles, then to the supermarket , then back home
11 I THANK GOD IT WORKING. HE ANWERS PRAYERS! it is functioning normal
