While I'm figuring out what to do with my oil presure issue I discoverd the alternator is bad - confirmed down at my local AdvanceAuto.

What is the recommend way to rebuild one of these? Can anyone recommend a way, maybe a link or kits?

For about the same price, you might be able to find a whole alternator at the junkyard.

And it'* great for soaking up large and small spills! Yeah, go the used route.

You should have a Delco CS-130 105A alternator, you can get a rebuilt one from RockAuto for 93.29 plus shipping, it has a new voltage regulator in it..
I've heard the CS-130'* are not very reliable alternators, I'd personally consider stepping up to a CS-144, pretty sure you'd want the first style CS-144, I know that has the same mounts.

At around 160.00 shipped with no core charge, I think the choice for me would be an easy one.

Sorry I meant you should have the CS-130D, you could also have the AD-230, so you will need this if you go with the CS-144

If you have a CS-130 and not a CS0130D then you won't need that adapter for the CS-144.

Hi guys. Thanks for the responses and advice. Monetary constraints will keep me from buying a new or rebuilt alternator. I'll check out the "used one from the salvage yard" option tomorrow and see how much that will cost and weigh that against the cost for rebuild kit. Incidentally, my alternator is a CS-130.

If it is just your voltage regulator you could replace that pretty cheaply.

I did a little more searching last night and came across these folk.

The kit contains a new rectifier, voltage regulator, brush holder assembly, bearings and a DVD all for $29.95. Seems like a pretty good deal. What do you think?

Never heard of them, and the site is not that professional, but it looks legit.
Not a bad deal.

Do you have something to press out the old bearings, and press in the new ones?
I've never done bearing replacement in anything before, but I am pretty sure you will need a press of some sort.
