Hey folks, I am the new owner of a 92 Bonneville SE. It has a stock cassette player and four speakers. I think it is a pretty bad stereo and makes the car less enjoyable. I have noticed that the front speakers distort at reasonalble sound levels if the bass anywhere near the maximum. I don't see putting in an aftermarket deck as helping, but i could be wrong?

Anyways, I would like CD capabilities, and also to preserve the stock red lighting. I have searched around a bit and it seems that an RF changer or a 94+ factory CD player are the way to go. Because I am a poor college student and park on the side of the street, expensive upgrades are not practical. I think new front speakers are the most important thing, followed by a better solution to the CD problem than my car kit.

I went to Best Buy today and was quoted 70 dollars for the install and about 60 dollars in wire harnesses and antenna adapters for an RF changer, 350 out the door with bad speakers is not a good start. I want to keep this entire thing around 300 dollars. I am also taking summer classes, so doing my own install is out of the question. Any insight into my situation is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey, welcome to the club. There are several things
1. replace the speaks yourself, I know you said you are a summer student but that much for an install is a rip off and the front speaker install takes no time at all. All you do is take apart the door, unscrew the speaker, clip the wires that are soddered to the speaker. Now you attach female connectors to the ends of the recently cut wires and they will fit perfectly to the connectors on the new speaks, screw the speakers back in and replace the door. Install time:30-45 minutes

2. Pioneer makes really good speakers for cheap. I bought mine for $100 CDN they have a beige cone and a purple built in tweeter, they have great low end sound

www.crutchfield.com They give you EVERYTHING you'll need for any install pretty much. And they show you how to do it. They make sure what you want fits in your car, and help you out too. I'd recommend a cd player with MP3 capability, and a detachable face. Preouts are also nice, and pick something thats easy and logical for you. Speakers are personal preference too so go listen to what fits, and buy what you like,

Why thank you! Didn't spend two weeks and $1500+ hooking up my buddy with a 91 firebird with one kick *** system. RFX-9000 MP3 cd player, Fosgate 6x9s (only $50!) pioneer 4x6 (infinity plates we wanted don't fit). A Sony ES (not to be confused with sony crap) 1000w amplifier, two Rockford Fosgate Punch HX2s and a very small sealed box that fits perfectly in that little crevace in the back of the firebird between the gas tank, and the tail lights.
