2002 SSEi exhaust problems - common problem?
Was just wondering if any type of exhaust problems were a common problem in the 00+ Bonneville SSEi...
I have two 2002 SSEis and seem to have the same slight rattling of the exhaust problems.
As a matter of fact, one had the entire exhaust system replaces a few months ago, and I am hearing a slight rattling....

Is it a rattle or a ticking?
You might check the heat shields and see if any have come loose. It'* pretty common to have them come loose. I would recommend getting the exhaust hot, putting the car on ramps and with some thick leather gloves start wiggling parts and piece and shields.

mine does the same when you rev from idle it will rattle but after a certain rpm it goes away, I can't find where it is coming form. But I do think that it is something in the muffler because it is only from the left side of the car

It'* possible that a baffle in the muffler or resonator has broke loose.

I get a rattle at idle that sounds like it is coming from the muffler area. If I keep the windows and the radio turned up it must go away because I can't hear it anymore. Ha Ha
The cat was replaced before I bought it so I just figured with 175000 on the original muffler it is making noise in hopes of getting replaced too.

Mine started rattling - then threw a P0420 code - checked both the fore and aft O2 sensors and they were fine - so replaced the catalytic converter. The shop showed me the old one after I asked to see it - I shook it - and there was my rattle. So far no more P0420 code, the rattle is gone and it sounds good. I went for non-stock Cat replacement for cheaper - was about $250 at meineke

Had the rattle on a 2000 ssei. Ended up being the plate between the exhaust manifold and the converter. Tried to get the dealer to replace as part of the catalytic converter warranty- but they refused.
