Hi everyone, I have been enjoying this forum for a while now... I have already saved money by diagnosing a torque shudder problem and malfunctioning air vents using info I found on this forum. (First problem fixed by new spark plugs funny enough; second was a loose vacuum hose)

This is my first posting! Here'* my situation: I have a 1993 SE with 116,000 miles that I am not about to replace if I can help it. The suspension has always been soft but recently it has gotten way out of hand. When cornering at moderate speed it feels like the rear end is floating above the pavement and is about to break loose at any moment. A couple of months ago the guy at the tire store gave it the bounce test and I think he said it needed new struts. He also noticed that the rear tires are cupped. I gave it the bounce test in my driveway and it seemed OK to me... it bounced up, then down, then stayed level.

I want a stiffer suspension. I am inclined to buy new, stiffer struts but I'm wondering whether I need new coils too. I'm also looking at upgrading the sway bars. I saw that Domestic Performance sells a thicker rear bar. Since my car has the baseline suspension is it worth grabbing the thicker front sway bar from a junked SSEi? How much do I have to worry about matching them?

The thicker SSEi bar will bolt right up to your car, just make sure you get one from a 92-95 to make sure. I'm not sure if they changed in 96. The spring rates are different, too. You could get the rear coils off the same car. The front springs are part of the strut, but the rear coils are seperate.

You're on the right track. I believe a couple SE pilots here have done this already.
