Chrome wheels corrode along the bead
The chrome torque star style wheels on my 98 SSEi are leaking air. The tire shop says its caused by corrosion on the wheel where the tire bead seals to the wheel. They take the tire off, clean the wheel with a wire brush on a die grinder remount the tire. It seems to fix the problem for a few months but they start leaking again. It seems like I have to get one of them redone every couple months. Does anyone have a fix for this problem?

I had the same problem for years with my OEM chrome wheels. Nothing seemed to work, took off the tires, cleaned the seal, etc. I was running Goodyear tire, and also replaced the Goodyears with another set of Goodyears. Still had leaking.
The fix- I switched to Michelin tires. Problem solved. Seems the OEM chrome rims are finicky, and the Michelin tires are the long term fix- or get different rims.

Im having the same thing with my Chrome Torque Star factory wheels on my 1997 SSE. I love the wheels, and I do have michelin tires on them , but still get leaks on two wheels.

Have the tire shop coat the bead area on the rim with the sealer they use for that purpose. Its black sticky $hit and it works pretty well.
