Default Exhaust Revurb and Engine Whine

Hey guys, ive had my bonneville for about a year and a half now and ever since i put my flowmaster 80 series on about a year ago, i have been getting alot of reverb from the exhaust. I will put my foot on the throttle then if i just let go of it, my exhast crackles and makes a weird revurburating sound. I know this is common when the exhaust is new, but i have had it for over a year.

Next is the whining noise coming from somewhere in my engine, only when i floor it and im at probaly 4500- 6000 rpm it is the loudest, it sounds like a supercharger....but...i know my car isnt supercharged, although everyone ask me once they hear the noises...

Anyone have any ideas what can be causing either of these two problems. Thanks in advanced.

Was this a complete exhaust from the cat-back or did you use the factory pipes? Not too sure if you left the resonator in your exhaust...the reverb would not be as great if you left it in place.

Agree with the P/* causing the whine, could also be an idler pulley going a bit dry.

The resonator is a good point. Do you still have it? One thing you can do is install household style thick carpet padding under your trunk carpet. It can help a bit with the reverb. Under and behind the rear seat as well.

Your whine may very well be the rear bearing of your alternator also.

Another suggestion if you still can’t find problem - I had a whine for a while in my 92 and it was the transmission. It would come and go and sounded just like PS pump. I knew it wasn’t PS or other accessories because I ran the engine for a moment without serpentine belt and whine was still there. Trans shop couldn’t find source of problem without tear down and said to just let it go till it gets serious since I didn’t have any drivability issues. It took 60k miles before it crapped out and they thought it may have been a sticking check ball in valve body.
