Default Extracting OBD-1 Codes??

Need some help fellas, can someone explain to me how to extract codes from an OBD-1 sys. (94 Bonneville SSEi) I have a key for the older "GM" type computers that just jumped across the diagnostic terminal, to ground,...then count the flashes. I also purchased a handheld OBD-2 unit for my other vehicles, and I thought this Bonne was OBD-2 Compliant, for the connectors looked the same??? But it'* not The emissions label indicates it'* a Obd-1 sys. I have a Cadillac that goes into Diagnostic by pressing the "Off" and "Warmer", evidently this doesnt do it either. Could someone please explain to me if you can manually extract the codes, or do I need to buy another scan tool? Thanks in advance.

Hate to break it to you but the only way to pull a code from a 94/94 Bonneville is to get the right scanner. As you noted it is a OBD2 connector but the PCM is still OBD1. I have one for mine but it is $350 and hooks up to my laptop to scan with. If your looking for a cheap/free way you won't find any.

Well... you can try to hit up your local parts stores. They sometimes will scan for free in hopes that you'll buy parts. Chances are they too will have trouble scanning your car since they use fairly cheap/generic scanners themselves.
