Steering wheel & air bags
Just about finished my interior swap from my '96 parts car. Now I'm wondering about the steering wheel swap. Never played with air bags before.
Is this a big job? Any special info? Suggestions or ideas?
As always thanks to all.

Disconnect the battery first. Under the dash there is a yellow connector, that is your SRS connector. When you take the bag off the wheel, be extremly careful as it could still go off.
Someone else will chime in and help you with removing the bag from the wheel

There are 2 screws on the back of the steering wheel. I believe that they are a #30 hex head. Those 2 screws hold the air bag on..... After you pull them out, carefully pull on the air bag as it will come off of the steering wheel.....Then unclip the air bag from the steering wheel.....
To pull the steering wheel off, loosen the large nut,,,,,attach a puller to the steering wheel and it will pull off.
If you are only using the steering wheel from 1 car to another, you shouldnt have to go under the dash to unhook the air bag system. You can just unhook it from behind the air bag......
Install the new steering wheel, careful to not pinch any of the wiring, from the airbag, tighten the steering wheel, and then rehook the airbag to the wiring.....Screw the airbag back into place.
What I did on my car, was after I rehooked the battery back up, I stayed away from the steering wheel, like in the passenger side seat, turn the key on, and then moved the steering wheel back and forth to make sure that the bag did not go off. It says that if you pinch the ribbon for the air bag, that it could cause the bag to either go off, or not work at all..... This ribbon is what the current runs through for the airbag.......Best thing to remember, Work slow and make sure there is no wire pinches or problems.....
Hope this works.

As DO25BUBBA said...go slow, use due care and caution and when you power the car back up, stay clear of the air bag. There is enough stored energy in those things to seriously ef you up if you happen to be too close when one decides to go off accidentally.
