I'm a newbie with a problem.
My 92 Bonny has >200k miles and a SC 3800. It has a new 195 t-stat, new radiator with oil cooler and tranny fluid cooler, new water pump, new hoses, 50-50 antifreeze (green). When on the road the temp gauge indicates about 195 (slightly below the middle 200 mark) and stays there. If I get into slow moving traffic the engine heats up right away and the gauge moves to the next temp mark (240?). If I turn the heater on full (90 degrees) the temp gauge will come right down and stay right at 190 even in stopped traffic. While I can't check the fans while driving, when in the driveway and idling the fan cycles on and off but the temp gauge stays above the 200 mark. The other fan runs if I turn on the air conditioner.
Well meaning associates are giving me all kinds of suggestions. I like the car and would like to fix the problem.
Any ideas? If I need to clarify anything, please let me know. Thanks.

John, your car isn't out of the ordinary. They run hot. You might be a LITTLE on the warm side, but not by much.

I don't like it either, so I did several things. Added another trans cooler, installed a high-speed fan override switch, installed a 180° thermostat, and ducted half my ram air to cool the supercharger.

I rarely break 200° on hot days now.

One contributor that may be an issue is your catalytic converter. If it'* old, and starting to clog, it can contribute to high temperatures. You may want to knock on it and see if you hear any rattles. If you do, change it.
