Need advice for water pump replacement
*3800 series 1 */C*
Hi,
I've tried to change my water pump last year but I failed miserably. Ended up just RTV'ing the leaks.
Now, I got more tools, more experience and also a new heater core I'd like to work properly.
How, just how, do you remove the water pump? Do you remove the entire alt. bracket or you can just partially loosen it to gain access to the bolts?
Do you absolutely have to remove the engine support?
Any advice or pointer (or way better : Pictures!) would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot!

This is not a beginners job here. So many factors to consider: what year and model the car is?, are the intake gaskets leaking as well?, do u know how to bleed the system of air after you replace the pump?
To start, place a floor jack under the front of the oil pan. I like to use a small section of 2x4 to place in between the jack and the pan. Let the jack contact the pan just enough where it won't move around. Do not put a bunch of pressure on the pan!
Now, simply remove the engine mount, the belt and the pump. Depending on the set up, u can usually jack the engine up a few inches (no more) and be able to see all the bolts. They are 10 and 13mm. Use thread sealer on the 13mm ones and don't get crazy with silicone around the pump! Just clean the surface where the pump goes real good and you shouldn't have any problems. Be sure to bleed the air out of the system before any test drives... Good luck!

Also remember, the mount seperates in to 2 pieces with 1 bolt and some lifting, and is much easier to remove once it is apart. Once the mount is out of there, you also have much more room to address the water pump.
Not sure on the alternator bracket however, I am not sure if supercharged is different.

As stated above, support the engine from below. Remove the engine mount. And yes, I do believe you will need to remove the alt bracket as it'* part of the cooling system and goes in to the water pump. I could be wrong on that. Loosen the 8mm bolts on the pulley before removing the belt. Been a while but I think it'* 10mm bolts, or 13mm. Only remove the water pump bolts, leave the bolts that hold the front engine cover on. You may need to pry a bit to crack the pump loose. Clean up the surfaces real good to get a clean seal.

Ok, it'* done.
Had to remove P/* pump to budge alternator / p/* pump bracket.
Genius who changed the engine support welded it back on so it was a supplementary hassle.
It wouldn't be so bad if the manuals actually told you how to do it for real...
