Possible timing trouble??
Hello all, i want to thank anyone in advance if they have any prior experiences with the same issues as i'm having or might just have some insight.
Ok, here goes...93 bonn. SSEI , had a slight mis, so i bought new plugs and wires, installed them but nothing changed. Car ran good, wasn't really that noticable, but you could hear a slight "put put" from the exhaust.
Well a month or so later.... it seemed to get worse like overnight.Running really rough. Then over the next few days it just kept progressing. ( I had to drive due to work and COULD NOT miss). And finally.... drove home after work and pulled into the garage and shut the car off . Now it won't start, and i can still hear the same mis in the exhaust.
My big question is , does this sound like it could be a timing chain issue? or could it be a cam or crank sensor??
The car has around 200k on it, the motor was rebuilt around 100k. Within the last year i've replaced coil packs, fuel pump/filter, Alt.

Well i can't seem to recall what type plugs and wires i installed at the moment. The car is a few blocks from here at my brothers, so i'm going down tomorrow to get the car.
I need to correct a statement i made, the car will not start, but you can still hear the slight "putt putt" as you crank it over. And that is if you are standing at the rear of the car while someone is cranking it over.
I also just remembered ...... i was told that there was black smoke during hard acceleration.
I'll hopefully get the car moved tomorrow to where i can start to really check things out. Was just trying to see if anyone had any of the same issue'* to give me a clue where to start.
Thanks again for your help.

The putt-putt in the exhaust could be a hole in a piston or a burned valve. The compression test will quickly reveal or eliminate those expensive possibilities. Check the level of coolant in the radiator and the overflow tank. If you have lost coolant internally, the problem could be a failed LIM gasket.
