Neon Pontiac on back deck?
Hey Drifter, could you give us some tips on how you lit up your PONTIAC on your back deck? That looks great and would really wow up the rear for everyone!

I don’t know how easy it maybe with certain models. Mine was a 97 SSEI and it already had the indent for the word Pontiac ( which made my life a whole lot easier ).
First.. pop the trunk, remove the 4 pins ( 2 per side ) on the corner of the trunk with a pen ( to push the center pin ). Then remove the 5 bolts ( 2 per side, and 1 right beside the trunk clamp ). Carefully then pull the whole assembly out ( watch out for the bulb assembly and wires as they are still connected. ) Simply then turn the bulb assembly off the back piece. Now you have the rear trunk assembly on your hand.. you now have to pry out the center of the 4 large pins at the bottom to allow better access. Remove the skirting that it was holding on. Get yourself a Neon Tube or Plasma in my case tube that is at least 12” long. Secure it on a work bench or something.. the last thing you want now is the piece wobbling around while you’re working on it. Cut a rectangular piece about 13 – 14” wide off the bottom of the assembly ( to allow the fitting of the neon.. and cleaning off the debris later on ). I then with a trusty Dremel in hand and a drill bit ( yes a drill bit since the router bit I had wasn’t good enough to cut ½” inch thick plastic. ) followed the indent to carve out the word Pontiac. You will more then likely start melting the plastic as you go along.. simply just move your bit back a little everytime you advance to push the plastic burn crap out and to allow you to see what you’ve done so far. This part takes the longest, as after you’ve cut out the word.. you’ll have to go back and try to smooth out the edges ( especially the inside part ). Then clean the inside of any plastic debris. After which, I grabbed a piece of plexi-glass ( polycarbonate or some type of clear plastic will work, if you can’t find any at the store.. you can simply use the ones that came with the package for your neon light ). I got carpet spray on glue ( used for glueing carpet to the side of the subwoofer box ) sprayed from the inside ( thru the hole you cut.. see I told you that hole will come in handy even before installing the neon ).. make sure you have something to catch it on the other side or tape it off so the glue won’t run if you douse too much.. cut the plastic to about 12” The Pontiac word is 10” long but you want at least an inch on each side for it to hold on. Allow that to dry for a couple hours ( reload yourself with hippie pills or I.V. injecting Alcohol ) then slide in the neon / plasma tube carefully.. you can either screw it in from the bottom ( since there is another piece that covers the bottom anyways. ) or use double sided tape.. ( I recommend the tough kinds and double layer it ) to secure your neons in. From that point on you can either wire it up with it’* own power source and switch or you can do what I did which is I spliced it into one of the marker lights power right beside it. This means it comes on when the marker light is on… I don’t need anymore switches just yet in my car… ( I’m not driving a tow truck anyways ). Bolt it back on.. and done. I also went an extra step too since I have to deal with winter. I put tint on the outside part to prevent any crap, salt, water from entering the craves of the newly hollowed out Pontiac Word. The tint will leave what seems like a foggy affect at first, but no threat.. it evaporates and becomes clear as soon as the glue cures ( a couple of days or two ). That way.. by summer I can simply remove the tint film on the outside or replace it when it gets damage..
Now Ricers knows that it’* a Pontiac that just handed them their *** and caused their girlfriend to laugh at them.. ha ha ha…
