Does the door handle bind at all or does it feel normal? Does it seem too easy to pull?

Chances are the linkage in the door may have come off the door handle.

Is it even possible to remove the inside panel with the door closed?

My theory is that the a clip may have fallen out that'* not allowing the door latch to be acuated. I think it'* possible that you can remove the panel with the door closed, but be warned I don't think it will be easy. I had a hard time when I did it with the door open, but part of that too was that I have never had my panels off before.

you can always remove the plastic pannel that surrounds the actual handle. and see if you can wiggle stuff around, see if it feels normal and such
