i'm working on a 4L60E tranny from a 97. i pulled a P1870 which is the TCC, but everyone has told me to just change the valve body, so i pulled the valve body yesterday and this is what i found.
1.- on one end of the VB i have a 3-2 control solenoid, and on the other end is the PWM/TCC solenoid.
2.- in the middle of the two solenoids are 4 valves. the 3 closest the the PWM/TCC are spring loaded, but the one beside the 3-2 control solenoid isn't, if i push it in it stays in. so i took the one valve apart and it looks like it should be spring loaded as well the round silver that first goes out had some scoring.
3.- why cant i just change the PWM/TCC solenoid, why do i have to change the valve body as well.
the tranny has 265.000km on it but i dont have the money to replace it and i was told that if i change the valve body it will fix the problem - if it gets me through the winter i'll be happy and then in spring i'll change the tranny.

Honestly, I don't know the answer. I'd be asking the same questions, where did the spring go, if there should be a spring? On the 4T65, IIRC there are some upgrades etc when you get to the TCC in the valve body where sonax found lots of seals or bores to be worn etc.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.

You can attach pics directly to the forum. On the toolbar when you press reply is a button, if you hover over it, it will say "Insert Image".
Use that to attach a pic.
One other thing you can do. Find a good trans guy lijke Dave at TripleEdgePerformance with tons of experience and willing to talk to people. Give him a call 260-437-8912, ask for the advice and probably end up buying the parts from him as he'* usually a lower cost for the best parts.

What type of external diag has been done? Did you do any type of pressure testing? Do you have a scanner? If so how much TTC slip speed did you have? Do you mean play in the valve that fits into the valve body, or is there play on the actual bore of the valve body? If you have play in the actual valve body housing itself you probably need a valve body. I am not aware of something like that could being sleeved. Dan can you post a schematic of the valve body out of a FSM? Then we all can look at it and be on the same page.

Something else I just thought of, Did you drop the lower pan and inspect the fluid and filter? If so was there material in the pan that shouldn't be there? If there is you may have a bigger issue and the trans would need to be torn down to figure that out
