Security light problem pt.2
hi guys. I recently talk to some people on here about my car. the problem was that everytime i went to start my car the SECURITY light was on and wouldnt let me start it. I was told to clean the clean and the ignition with an q-tip and alcohol but it didnt work. then i was told to replace the ignition it self, so i was but it was costy. So what i did was bought a new steering colomn from a friend for cheap and installed it and still the same problem. Does anyone know something else i could do. Is it possible to disconnect the security system on there. Its an 93 Bonneville without factory alarm

Measure the resistance of the pellet in your key, then solder an equal value resistor inline with the wire from your ignition switch. I forget the color of the wire, but it'* posted here if you search on VATS.

When all else fails do the resistor by-pass. I went through months of nightmarish and frustrating intermittent no start condition with my 92 sse. I was on the verge of junking the car until I found this forum. When you install the resistor make sure you secure it properly and tape it up good. Mine came loose and the car starting exhibiting the same behavior again. I soldered it then taped it up and have had no problems since. Now to work on the other problems...low a/c air flow from vents, intermittent door lock problems and drivers side window not coming down all the time. Ya gotta love these cars...lol. Good luck and be patient...these are quirky but good cars.
