Where is the knock sensor
I know that this has probly been asked a zillion times, but where the heck is the knock sensor on my 92 Bonni ssei? I have a Haynes motor manual, but it shows the wrong setup. So far that book has been a HUGE waste of money. I hate to ask but I really don't want to go wrenching on something I don't need to.

True Car Nut
On my 97, the knock sensors are threaded into the 1/8" pipe tapped holes that used to be where you drained the coolant from each side of the engine block. They screw vertically up into the angled underside ot the block, about an inch out from the edge of the oil pan. They are more or less centered between the flywheel and the timing cover. The rear sensor has a heat shield around it. You can see them both if you get under the car and look straight up on either side of the block.
If you need to remove them, be ready to catch the coolant that will drain each side of the block when you do.
Good luck

I recently had to clean the connector on mine and I found it above the oil filter adapter on the 92 SSEi. I had a code for the knock sensor so I cleaned in up well and the check engine didn't come back on. That is where my Mitchells on Demand said it was...

what....
What exactly am I looking for? I have the replacement part, but I am sure it goes inside something or I have the wrong part. (wouldn't be the first time Advance Auto did this)
Thanks for your valuable info on location, but I really need to pinpoint this thing. You know, what does it look like and exact location. Yesterday I took out the crankshaft sensor behind all my pulleys. It took me two hours to get it all put back together. :(
I am really not familiar with modern electrical sytems. I am a child of the 80s and all my cars in my youth had either simple points and condensor or the old "electronic" ignition.
Thanks for the help guys. I know that this is the problem I am looking for and I really need to get this car through inspection soon.

From underneath you have to go up past the oil filter and it is on the block near the front of the engine. If you were to stand at the front of the engine (pulley side, not car front) you would have to reach down behind the power steering pump. It is difficult to get at and all I had to do was clean the connector I have not replaced the unit itself (didn't even get a real good look at it).
