Well, I replaced the pos. and neg. batt. cables. Still has the constant chimes and the barely glowing check guages light. There is another cable on the pos. side underneath the main cable that goes to the starter. This one runs back along the fender well to the firewall. Not sure where it goes. Could that cable be bad? I'm lost. Not good at electrical troubleshooting. HELP!!!!!

This may be a long shot...but get that alternator checked out! at 225000 miles it is getting dicey there. I really was sure that replacing those damn cables would get you in the clear. Take car to local autozone and get that alternator speced out. Could be a dying/weezing alternator going bad and Amps/volts spiking up down radomly. As I recall now, i replaced my cables and a month later the alternator fried out!! I though it was because i had just washed the engine at a car wash!!!! I hope this helps. :(

Default Cable to Firewall.

Also I think that last cable going to the firewall is the juice for your ECU/PROM!! I think.

I was wondering if that was the cable for the ECM. Do you think it might also be the ECM going bad? I will get the altenator checked though. Thats a good idea. I don't think Ive ever replaced it. Thanks!

I dont think that the PCm is going bad, if it was, there would me more things all twacked out. But I diddnt even think of the alternator. Maybe one of the regulators is busted. Keep me posted after you replace it.

Default chimes and gauges

Yes, I would say that your ECu is cool..cause you would have a lot more problems than just chimes and gauges lights flashing. But still trace and back track that last cable. Check for kinks and bald spots/burned frayed areas where it could be grounding out. Tape up/repair sleeve up as necessary. One more thing I thought of last night..get that starter solenoid checked/replaced too. Mine was acting wacky as well especially after a hard /hot drive things would get wierd. And this is a loooong shot from left field..my cigarette lighter was correded and rusty and everytime I pushed that sucker in i would blow out my radio fuse and my dash lights as well. Check that danm lighter too!! sorry I can't be more of assistance, but do not give up and be patient. These are cool cars and they take a beating. Hang in there and keep us posted!

I went to dive the the car tonight and noticed that the voltage guage was very low ( to the left ). I feel kinda stupid here but I know I looked at all the guages before when this all started and it was fine. I am guessing it is like you said, the altenator. I'll have it tested to make sure its not the batt. and let you know, but I an guessing thats my problem.

Don't beat yourself up Bro. Things are rough enough as it is. Just get that Bonnie checked out and get ready for a nice new alternator bill. I paid about 99.95 for my unit! I hope all goes well. Keep us posted!!!

These things aren't tough, a gearhead and an admin asked questions that you didn't answer. They can't diagnose and make suggestions if you don't answer.

Default He gotta learn!

dbeast420,

I can't argue with that. But he gotta learn..just like everybody else he gotta learn. whether it be the hard way or the easy way he will learn to first check and double check gauges, scans, results, codes, trouble shoots, manuels, advice, questions posted on forums, all that good stuff. Honest mistake no harm done. But next time I bet you a Texas iced tea he will sure as h*** pay attention to those gauges! Ha!
