Do you know how to reprogram the receiver in the car?

1) Find the instructions on this site for reprogramming your door locks to recognize your keyless entry remote. If that procedure doesn't work for you, it may be that your transmitter isn't sending a signal anymore.

2) See if they have another remote that'* correct for your year of car that you can borrow to program your car for, just to try out. You would have had two originally provided with your car but I assume one'* long gone.

3) If you've already swapped in a new transmitter battery and it'* not responding, and you haven't done any major electrical work on the car in the meantime that might explain its failing to recognize your remote (simply removing the car battery won't make it forget the transmitters), you might try cleaning the transmitter contacts. If your '92 transmitter is like my '93, unscrew the two halves and carefully lift out the circuit board and rubber pushbuttons, and separate them. You'll find a contact sheet under the pushbuttons that'* stuck to the contact pads on the circuit board. Gently lift it off, clean the contacts if needed, and make sure the contact sheet is aligned properly when you stick it back down. (Radio Shack has spray electrical contact cleaner; I just used rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab.)

Good luck...
