Question Is This Common...?

My 99 Bonneville has a small hole in the rear-passenger wheel well. Is this a common problem/occurrence on these car models? The pictures are not from my car; however, one is from a Buick and the other a Pontiac.

Relatively from what ive seen... it mainly happens with people that live up north and bonnies that have to deal with the salty snow that makes rusting a problem.... one reason im happy to be in the south lol

talk with a couple others, theyll be back on tomorrow, theyve seen this more than i have and could prolly help with ideas on how to fix it

I've seen it several times. Most people notice wet seats and seatbelts.

Along with what the other two members said; this also happens over time because when your car is being driven next to any type of shoulder on the road all the little stones next to the shoulder get thrown up the wheel well causing a sand blast affect on your under body coating. Over time rust will set in and cause that hole you see.

If not fixed the water will get in all sorts of places causing a hole lot of problems.....

Do you have water in your trunk? Or under the spare tire area? Under the passenger seat and carpet area as Danthurs brought up? Does your trunk and or interior smell musty?

All the more reasons to fix that hole very soon!

It will also cause electrical problems to. Did you know that your Air Bag Module is under your passenger front seat and that if submerged under water it could cause a deployment at anytime?

Real bad cases of water coming in from the wheel well could be the cause for this.

I have had this rust problem area in 2 of my Bonneville'* over the years. It can be fixed pretty cheaply but also a long lasting fix to.

By the way...that is not a small hole you have there.

Does your car have auto leveling rear shocks? also known as Electronic Level Control (ELC)

Do you want help?

I had that in my 99'. Fixed it with some underbody coating. With a hole that big you will need to get something on the back of the hole then go crazy with the coating.
