That way you're only jacking up the block. It'* probably me just being anal...but it'* one of those "feel better" situations!
I did the same thing when I replaced my belt, water pump, etc. recently. Worked well.

The oil pan is stout! I had an L27 sitting on it'* oil pan for a long time, moved around, etc.... Not a dent.

Just make sure you spread it out like mentioned.
