I plan on keeping the car, and driving it forever

I'm going to investigate this weekend.. see what I can find.

Don't forget the three-foot-long extension to reach that one backward bolt in the bell housing.

When I replaced my engine, I pulled it from the top, always thought you could drop the trans from the bottom. Is it so ?

From the bottom is how transmission shops do it. The have a cradle that supports the engine and they remove the subframe and then the tranny.

This is something I should learn how to do. It seems the labor for rebuild is nearly 1000.00. They have expensive shops though.

Im sure careless, dirty, production work would be the only reason some shops might have failures.

The rebuild in my 99 is failing or incorrect. The 90 Regency Im now driving with 312,000 miles had a rebuild around 2 years ago and is still working fine.

"It seems the labor for rebuild is nearly 1000.00" vs $1200 for a remaned by GM trans with a 2 year/24000 mile warrenty. This is a tough one. :P

All prices I've heard have been around 1500, most rebuild kits I've seen have been in the 500 range. Does that 1200 include R & R ? Maybe thats the extra 300.

Part only and most likely wilol be freight charge as well. e.g. for 1990 3.33 (have choice of 2.84, 2.97, and 3.33) GMPartsDirect shows

GM PART # 24212205
CATEGORY: Transmission Assembly-(to a business address only)
...
OUR PRICE: $1,198.84
DESCRIPTION: TRN G REM
Core $225.00 (refundable)
*&H $228.80
Total $1,652.64

Though anyone with connections may be able to beat that.

Boy, the shipping and handling sure threw a monkey wrench in that deal. Now you'd be up near 2 grand with R&R. Wonder is a 2:84 is an acceptable core for a 3:33 ?

The price you just gave is closer to what I was quoted about 2years back for a GM TGP reman. from dealership.

Remember the "core" needs to be shipped too chiching, chiching

This is why its cheaper to pay a tranny shop the $14-1800. Unfortuanantly thats more than decent used cars can be bought for.
