89 stalling out
Original problem - car stalling out at no particular time. Code 42 - replaced cam sensor - no change. Replaced iginition module - no change - but now check engine light and high temp light blink together, car stalls. Will not start again until lights stop blinking. Disconnected coolant sensor - will not start. Gage reads 180 deg. Is this sensor bad, will it stop the car from starting until it "cools down"? thank you - doug

And at no time will an over-temp prevent the car from running. You can run them over temp till they boil over and puke coolant (not advisable, but possible) The lamp is just a warning light. The erratic nature of it is setting off little warnings in my head that you have a wiring or ECM problem.
BTW, Junkyard Type 253 ECM'* are pretty cheap and easy to come by at the moment. If you can spare a few bucks, it wouldn't hurt to have one in the kit of spare parts. I'm not saying yours is bad, but swapping one out is a quick test to see if the brain box has taken a dirt nap. (You are going to be under the dash anyways to reseat the harness connector to it, no harm in swapping the complete unit.)
