I like it, thinking about even making them thicker than that. I'll live with it for a while. I took the new thick ones out actually cause I wanted to clear coat them first. After seeing my first flat mesh grills, made out of the same stuff, It didn't shine that much any more kinda looked tarnshed, even though it's aluminum. Thinking clear coat or spray polyurethane should do the trick.

Any ways just thought I'd share my little project today. Gotta do something while I'm at home on crutches, even out there while it snowed today. Hoping to have the tail lights cleared by the weekend. Thinking though it's too cold to clear coat or mist some amber bulbs silver for the tail lights, need a warmer day to paint. Probably can get away with the bulbs in the garge.

I like it Taylor! When you were talking about doing the euro conversion, I was wondering how it would look since your mesh sits so far back, that modification looks great!

Thanks everyone, I think it looks pretty good. still might make another one in the future and have it come out even further, thinking about angling it some to mimic the angled cutout for it. Need to order some more mesh to do my engine cover, want to get enough to make it all match.

You know all you +00 ssei's I saved my mold for these, If anyone want's a set, I might be able to make a few sets for those that are interested.

Hey Mremer, have you looked at your grills lately? How's the finish on them? Congrats on the COTM again.

mremer 02-04-2004 12:45 PM

sorry, I think I fell out of the loop. What was I looking for with my mesh?

(thanks btw)

TaylorD 02-04-2004 12:48 PM

Hows the finish looking? When clean is it still as shinny as new. Mine seem to have faded some. just curious how yours are holding up. Plan on clear coating my new ones.

mremer 02-04-2004 12:54 PM

the finish was always "bright enough". I am not looking for the high shine silver/chrome all way round. Kinda'f striving for a duller finish. But I think it is holding up just fine, washed it several times no rust, no corrosion, no problems. But I've also had a little less snow than you...

PontiacDad 02-05-2004 01:52 PM

Taylor I was taking another look at the grill inserts and thought they might look better with a darker tint? The silver finnish is good but just a bit off from the rest of the chrome?

TaylorD 02-05-2004 02:36 PM

Dad- (you don't mind that I call you that do you ?) what exaclty did you mean by that, paint them a darker silver is that what you are hinting? How much darker compared to my older mesh grill on the left, I know it's dirty but it does look much darker than the new on the right for being the same mesh. There not in the car right now so I can still paint them If I wish, I did buy some clear coat for them today but it's so cold out don't think I'll be painting any time soon. Also thinking look at Mremers grill, we have the same stuff, think mine just looks real shinny in the new pics.

My Dad thinks I should paint them RED like the arrow between the grills. He also wants to put a gold flame paint job on his dark blue Suzki Grand Vitara. Also just yesterday he's talking custom turbo kit, he can get it installed and tuned for free from a guy at his school. My pops I tell you. I buy him an intake kit for X-mas now he wants to go nuts. I really think is going to get it painted.

PontiacDad 02-05-2004 09:33 PM

I think the red would be too bold? But I was thinking a black adonized look, bright reflection but dark all most shadowed. Make sense?

Haha I have thought about flames too....gotta be a 70's thing? What about ghost flames?

TaylorD 02-06-2004 01:55 AM

Kinda like a black chrome look could be nice. I'm recalling early today I was shopping for spray paint to mist my amber bulbs and different gray for engine cover project, also bought a panel popper.too

Ghost flames exactly gold peral metallic flake is what the man wants. He works a vocational school with 4 spray booths, the teacher said he'd do it for the cost of the paint and have the advanced class do it as a project.
