tlsheff, I've always wanted a GP GTP, but never thought I could afford one. Thats why I ended up with the bonnie. Its been forever since I drove a GTP and I can't remember how much faster they feel to the bonneville... would you say the biggest change is with handling, or with acceleration? I got caught up with wanting a supercharged 3800 so badly that I bought the series 1 without knowing its limitations and now i am not sure if i want to keep it, or sell it with intent to buy a GTP down the road. Also, what made you choose the sixth generation over the seventh generation?

sorry about all the questions but I have a renewed interest in the GTP after seeing how nice your'* is!

also, what went wrong with your bonnie? Engine blow or is it just having reliability issues?

Nice car! Actually what I had set out to buy. I had my heart set on a GTP coupe, but I spotted this black beauty in the corner of a lot and once I drove it the story was written. I couldn't find the right GTP before I found this Bonnie is really about it.

The biggest change is the accerleration... LOT MORE POWER... but theres also the series II block power, more efficient blower, and 100,000 less miles so shes like a new car by my standings. The handling is a little tighter but they actually run the turns about the same, so the power is the biggest change for me. And yes the series 1 is very limited which is why i was looking out for one with the * II sc'd motor.

I didnt actually choose this over another generation, I work at the local GMC/(used to be)Pontiac/Caddy Dealership and we got it in on a trade in, tuned it up and when they came to me with the list for parts to fix her back up i noticed the customers name was marked out and the dealership name was *written* ontop, so I asked if it was a trade in, then went to the owner to ask about pricing for ME... Skipped all the salesmen, theyd have screwed me over on it, so I went to the top of the list lol The car really just landed in my lap at the right time so I dove in and bought her before someone else did.

And for the last question hehe (no worries, i dont mind talkin lol)
The bonnie still runs, Ive dropped her off the insurance and this weekend will drain the gas tank for the GTP because she wont be getting driven til i rebuild the motor and tranny and workout the electical problem. Motor is fine, shes just at alot of miles, has an odd knock at idle and cant shake the blasted P0170 (i think, i forget) code. The tranny runs, hits all gears except at WOT, she slips at the end of 2nd, think the bands are slipping so just a rebuild. And the Electrical problem is after a water leak, the control module, or a relay got fried and my headlamps wont turn off until the battery is unhooked. they work a lil too well lol... so i will work on fixing the bonnie back up later but for now shes getting parked in the garage for a long winters nap.

very nice, very nice.. what do you do at your dealership? I wish the auto industry wasn't so bad because I could only dream of having a job where I am around cars all day....

thats a pretty awesome deal you got on this GP, it'll serve you well. One of my friends has one with nearly 200K and it still looks and drives like new.

Going from a Series 1 to a Series 2 makes all the difference from my SSEi to the GTP... but its prolly right at the same in performance to a stock Bonnie with a Series 2, maybe 1/2 a second faster due to the slightly smaller size and less weight... but not much difference being a 4 door sedan

It'll be a 200-300 lbs difference from a loaded 96-99 SSEi, and 300-500 to a 00+ SSEi.

lol a lil more weight than i figured but good to know... so whats the est difference on a 1/4 track run between them?

i know the coupe is faster cuz its even smaller and lighter, but do you know the difference on time for a GTP Sedan vs SSEi Bonnie?
