Default My 84 IMSA Fiero

This car is the pride and joy of my small fleet. There is an odd history on this car and i dont have all the paper work to back it up but it is almost undeniable of the cars history. The car base wise is a 1984 Fiero SE with every option imaginable in 84 (except for the sunroof which comes into play later on) Back in 84 a race car driver by the name of clay young raced a Fiero for the dole fruit sponsored team for the 1984-`1985 IMSA series races. the car was equip with the pontiac 4 cylinder known as the 2.7 SD4 which was pontiac'* most powerful race 4 cylinder ever built as it progressed in its run. What makes this car and the actual race car so special is it was the 1st American made car to ever win the IMSA GTU series. This car was not the actual race car but the most well done promo car to the racer. there were a few others but they have all gone missing and were not equip with the IMSA DGP wide body and the Pontiac SD4..

Now the history of my ownership of it reminds me of an old love story
The previous owner had the car for about 10 years. he found it getting ready to rot away in the middle of a field . he made the owner an offer which was turned down. about a year later he got a call from the guy and ended up buying the car. So he got about 2 years of driving it out of the SD4 that was in the car before it threw a rod (common practice with this motor) After this he started putting a regular Iron duke 4 cylinder in it to drive it but health complications put a damper on that for him. So the car litterley sat in the corner of a garage for 8 years collecting dust. One day on the fiero forum he posts up for sale a bunch of parts which I needed for my old 87 Whne i went up there to look at them i was totaly distracted by this beauty. I was looking at it drooling thinking about how much i wanted it. than a little voice in my head said be patient your going to own it.

So fast forward a year. he post'* the car up for sale at a more than fair price but a problem you get with some fiero owners is that there cheap and no one could justify spending the amount he wanted on a non running car. So he still had it for sale but dident market it a lot so it was pretty much for sale for about 8 months. At this time i had just sold an 86 GT 4 speed that I got bored with and wanted a new project. I was looking at an Indy when suddenly it hit me that this IMSA was still on the market. So i call the owner up and said to him I dont have your asking price but i have enough to make you a non insulting offer. Well i went up there checked the car out and he took my offer and i brought it home. To this date i have a running and driving 2.5 iron duke in the car i'm having shifting troubles but i can drive it if i absolutely have to.

So enough about the history heres some pics. its not much to look at right now but when i get older i plan on a full restoration. Right now being a 23 year old kid and owning a piece of GM racing history is a trophy in itself

Yea there an addiction good thing is fieros are very cheap on insurance. my 2 84'* are on classic so i cant drive them that much.

The solstice was a gift from my grandma because she hated me driving a fiero daily and she hated my firebird for some reason.

This was my DD up until i got my solstice I just sold it and replaced it with my 88. i'm gona miss it when it gets towed away:(

the reason why the insurance is so cheap is because your only going to do damage to your own car.
