Default Daves 95 Riviera */C

Hey guys, I just got off of my spring break and we did a bunch to the car during the week so I figured it wouldnt be a bad time to post some pics of the mods and the car.









The car was repainted by my dad who owns a Collision shop with his brothers almost 3 years ago. Its been garaged whenever theres snow and salt on the roads.

It has the Series 1 L67 */C 3800 motor in it and we really got into mods the last month or so. About a month ago, my dad and I built a custom 3" downpipe that bolts right in place of the OEM one. We gutted the cat while we were in there and then welded the downpipe up to the cat.



Last week we did a bunch more while I was off. I installed Autolite 104 plugs, a 2.5" */C pulley, 1.8:1 Yella Terra roller rockers and then a boost guage just for fun.






We still have some more plans for the near future. This will be it until we get to some longer stretches of nice weather though!

Thank you guys!! I do have a few more mods planned for the future but no timeframe. I have some minor suspension mods planned, including a strut tower brace, custom sway bar links (made my the admin on rivperformance), lowering the car about an inch and upgrading to F-Body brakes. Then someday, I would like to look into fitting C5 corvette calipers in replacement of the F-body ones. As far as engine mods, a port and polish on the */C, throttle body, Intake Manifold and Exhaust manifold will probably be next. Along with a tune. Probably going to purchase the first tune from sinister, but will want to learn to tune myself eventually. Just trying to look at the limited options for tuning a Series 1 at the moment. If I get to a point of being comfortable with tuning, my dad and I think Meth/Water injection would be a great mod if we could make it work. I think it would be best to inject after the blower to protect the rotor coating and create a more even dispersion into the LIM. Alot of this is still a long way off and alot more research will need to go into these ideas but its never a mistake to plan big, I suppose! Thats what makes us crazy car enthusiasts to some extent!

Inject before the */C. It will cool the temps down even more especially if you don't have an intercooler.

PCM programming? Who'* going to program that? Not too many places tune 1995 or older PCM'*. And with you being boosted, and really no way to scan, I highly suggest not tuning. If you can scan, then tune.

Its a long shot, but possible, you may be able to rewire for a 1997 PCM and go Series 2 L67. Then your completely open for tuning in your driveway with HPTuners(which I have) And with having a Series 2, the upgradeable parts are pretty endless.

I really don't see the need for Corevette calipers. Your not going to go that fast. At the very least, upgrade to slotted/drilled rotors and ceramic pads.

Don't bother porting the front manifold. Just replace it with a different one. The rear one is just fine the way it is.

I didn't see a smaller pulley? Again, you have to be careful here, if you can't scan for KR, then you have no way of knowing if your going to destroy your engine.

Hey mike, My only concern with injecting before the supercharger was that some people have said the rotor coating may not hold up if the injected mix is coming into the */C fast enough but most of that is specilation on their part so it will still need more looking over before anything is attempted. Also, there was question about the shape of the */C outlet making it difficult to evenly apply the mixture as well.

Tunercat sells a program for the OBD 1.5, that Ryan Gick, with Sinister Performance uses and recommends. A few other 95 Riv owners have had him program for them with success. Also, I am able to scan for KR and several other important values using the Actron CP9185 scanner. There are a few more that can be used but Im not sure the models.

My dad and I really enjoy trying to mess around with the Series 1 since theres not a whole lot out there and we have to get creative.

The Corvette calipers would be just for show, really. I understand the F-body are plenty enough stopping power for my car, but I love the look of the corvette calipers, and I would someday like to purchase 19" rims for the car, and it is possible to get them for not a whole lot of $$$. Maybe F-body calipers will look plenty good enough an the Corvette calipers wont be necessary but I think the bigger calipers would look great!

The porting of the exhaust manifolds is just something I read about, wasnt sure exactly how necessary or beneficial that would be but thanks for the info there!

Ahh, and yes, I forgot to mention I did swap to a 2.5" pulley. I drove the car a couple times the week we did the work with some WOT runs and didnt see even a blip of KR but it was only in the 30'* so Ill definitely keep an eye out once it starts to warm up!

Finally someone else who likes modding a series 1!
I am curious as to where you found those yella terras for a series 1
did it make a noticeable increase in performance
im pondering doing them to my 93 PA Ultra
ive got ported heads and lower intake, and 2.1" pulley running 10-11 psi

I bought them from Intense performance. They appear to have them available still.

INTENSE Racing: Yella Terra 1.80:1 Series 1 3800 Roller Rocker Arms

I did definitely notice a drastic increase in top end pull after installing them. Tricky part of knowing how much they helped, is that I swapped SC pulley and did the downpipe and gutted cat at the same time as that, so those were likely just as big of a part of it. To really get the most out of Rockers, I think you would need to tune your high RPM fuel trims and shift points after installation. I would definitely recommend them as a worthwhile investment.

I'm beginning to build my own Water-Meth kit at the moment and have been playing around with some tuning values. Mostly basic stuff like raising speed limiter and lowering fan turn on temps since it'* my first time tuning.

I like the Series I, even with the limited availability of a performance aftermarket. I like having to build everything custom and making a real project out of it. I am glad to hear you are putting work into the motor on your PAU. I think with the ported manifolds, you would benefit even further from the 1.8 rockers. Would be a nice next step IMO. And the M62 sounds even better after the rockers!

I very rarely ever see Riv'* on the road here, but when I do, my head turns or I stop if it'* parked to have a look!
I like the sleek look of em, they came very well optioned and with the */C potential is great!
