Installing SSE/I grilles on a SLE completed..with many pics
so I want to have the 8 speaker system in my car, the only acceptable way to add rear tweets is to get a set of the SSE/SSEi rear grilles with the tweeters.
I dont plan on using the factory tweeters or the rear 6x9'*.... but a set of component 6.5" midbass and tweets
Now on to the fabrication, the SE/SLE rear deck is slightly different than the SSE/SSEi rear deck
here the SE/SLE rear deck in the stock form
here shows the amount needed to remove, the modified version is on the left and the stock is on the right
here is the underneath, the stock is on the left and the modified is on the right
here is an upclose shot of the modded deck
and the underneath
here is what the SSE/i looks like compared to the stock
here is what the underside of the deck looks like with the grilles installed
and the finished product
I know that this a great easy mod for all thoes what want some more sound,, there are many SSE/SSEi in salvage yards to grab the rear grilles. If you wish you can get the factory tweets and tap them into the 6x9 speakers, and run them beacuse the tweets have a bass block on them.
But i did this just for the fact that i wanted to run a set of components and needed a spot for the tweets

and L27 here is a little FYI if you plan on using the factory tweeters and brackets you will need to cut out a little more so they will fit

nice job.
Im wondering if it is easier to clean the inside back window or harder.
do they stick up? because they look thinner.
that was the one thing that use to bug me about my 97 SE.
