'95 Monte Z34 hot start prob.... Fixed
My old '95 Monte Carlo is having a problem starting and running when hot. It starts up cold just fine and will run all day with no problems at all, but if you shut it off and let sit for an hour it will not start up. The car turns over just fine, but just will not fire.
Engine is the DOHC 3.4 V6
New plugs and wires about 100 miles ago.
New fuel filter about 400 miles ago.
Unplugging the MAF makes no difference.
I am thinking fueling issue - FPR or fuel pump. :?
When the car does run, it also does not seem to have the power it used to also...... very doggy Seems to have lost a TON of top - end power
The car has NO cat, so the possibility of that being plugged is non-existant.
Air filter is good.
It runs smooth when started cold.... no miss at all.
Anyone have any ideas? I checked on MyMonte.com, and found that that place is pretty much useless, so I figured I would try on here

Have you tried starting it up in Flooed mode? (Pedal to the floor when you crank her)
The symptoms you described are very simular to my sable when a few of the injectors were leaking. Flood more got it started everytime.

No difference when giving the car gas. I have also tried that, pedal to the floor, halfway and everywhere in between.
when you try to start it hot, it will fire every once in a while, but won't actually stay running, even at that point adjusting the throttle makes no difference :?

a little late, but update time
The Dude ( Jason ) was over yesterday and we threw a fuel pressure tester on the car.
20 PSI at idle, and drops down to about 17 when hitting the throttle in neutral
Filter has already been replaced about two months ago and it was pretty plugged. I am thinking that the filter being plugged up weakened the pump and it now can't supply enough pressure to work correctly.
The same thing happened to my sisters '00 Malibu. pump would run, car would almost start. changed out a very plugged filter, still wouldn't start. bad filter killed the pump. new pump and it ran great.
SO, looks like it is the pump then

Hopefully you have an access panel (like mine ) so you don't have to drop the tank.
Sounds like you got some work ahead of you, hope it works!
