Default 94' Sierra fireballs

Recently I replaced the distributor on my 4.3l v6 and the other day I fired it up and drove to the store a couple miles down and it fell on its face, then ran the best it'* run in years, then popped. I drove it home easy and opened the hood and revved it up to see if it was popping out of the intake and blew the cap off of my intake filter with a big fireball. What do you guys think?

Check the timing. Since you just replaced the distributor, it might have slipped.

Also could be a defective distributor.

That'* what I was thinking too but I'm out of town this weekend and thought a little insight wouldn't hurt while wait for a chance to work on it. I'm not too familiar with the old way of doing things

Can you turn the distributor? If it'* out a tooth you may be able to adjust it out a bit.

yeah. I had to turn it to time it after we installed the distributor. I thought turning the distributor to time it was a common thing? Doesn't every distributer need to be turned to time it?

I'm talking about over or under timing to make up the tooth. There'* usually enough room to adjust it so it'll run OK. You are probably retarded so turn it full advanced and see what you get.
