Default 2002 SSEi - just shutting off intermittently...

My 2002 SSEi has started just shutting off intermittently while driving it...

On the highway (or in the city) it will just shut off, all the gauges go to 0...

I can put the car in Neutral while it is rolling, turn the key off - and then start the car again - and it will start, I put it in Drive - and then it goes fine.

Help!

Need to find out what is failing, spark, fuel etc. Scan the entire network for all codes.

There are random misfire codes, lean codes, rich codes, cam codes, and evap codes present in the system:

$550 Possible ignition module

$375 Spark Plugs and Wires

$119 Fuel Induction Service

$300Camshaft Position Sensor - $300.00 (May be more issues present)

$250Purge Solenoid - $250.00 (May be more issues present in evap system)

?Rich/Lean codes would need further diagnostic after present issues are resolved

We have several posts here that talk about corrosion somewhere under the back seat that causes stupid crap like this.

Yeah, this seems electrical, like a ground etc. Maybe the ignition switch.

I had the same issue with my 2000 Bonne SSEI, turned out to be crank position sensor was intermittent. Apparently antifreeze contaminates it and causes the problem. Generally failed at medium and high freeway speeds then came back. Very intermittent, enough to lose power brakes and steering. Don’t let it linger! Good luck! 🍀
