Default ac issue

replaced water pump and radiator. I accidently let some of the ac stuff out of the system. recharged it . on the way home it would blow cold then get warmer then blast out cold air again the warm up again. all the way home. got to the party store near home it blew cold at idle while I went in and the short drive home about 5-6 mins. still blew cold at idle in drive way. do I need more charge? not sure how much I let out. recharge gauge says it was charged. cant figure out the highway hot and cold but cold at the idle. any Ideas? thanks jeff

sounds a bit low, like its turning on and hitting the low cutoff and cycling like that. those recharge gauges arent a super acurate way to charge it, but if thats all you have i would aim more toward the middle of the window after its been running a while(the ac)

Seems like its still low. You can't trust those recharge gauges. If may show that you have sufficient pressure, but not enough freon for the system to work properly.

update! put another small can in the system and it seems to be full. compressor clutch clicks on, spins a couple of times and stops every 30 to40 seconds. something telling compressor not to run? not that up to sprrd on my ac systems.

It'* normal for the compressor to run and then kick off. 30-40 seconds seems a tad long before it cuts off.
