Hi all, new user here. I recently purchased a '67 Buick Wildcat. As it had sat for a while, the the seals in the front wheel cylinders loose pressure when the brake is applied. In fact, if I don't rapidly depress the brake pedal, the brakes don't work at all.

So, I bought kits to redo the front wheels, but I can't get the drum off???

I have turned the adjuster wheel all the way in and beat, hammered, and pried on the drum... all to no avail. What am I missing? Is there a keeper screw somewhere???

Someone told me I had to pull the whole hub assembly, but that doesn't make sense(I don't think).

I have changed drum brakes before, but It was years ago. Perhaps, I have forgot something?

I am not a professional mechanic(obviously), but I know my way around cars... especially, GM product.

Any ideals would be much appreciated.

There is more than likely quite the wear and or rust lip on the inside of the drum..Sadly looks like your gonna have to keep beating and prying..Maybe if your lucky and can get behind the backing plate and cut the head off the shoe retain spring rod deal they will let the shoes fall in and let go of the drum

In the meantime, I would say you just need a bigger hammer. You may want to have new drums after the sledge hammer.

Turned out I did have to pull the hub assembly. I haven't done drum brakes in... 25 years??? But after pulling the hub, it was fairly simple.
