So I cleaned my throttle body today and had it all nice and shiny and ready to go back in when I stripped one of the torx screw that holds the TB plate. I took the TB plate off for easier cleaning and it was all fine until I tried to make a final alignment to keep the plate from sticking.

The whole head of the screw just came off. :( I tried my best to get it out but It wasn't moving. I don't have the time or the tools to get it out this weekend. Now, the plate was aligned perfectly and didn't seen like it was going to move any, so I left it as is for now. (Car runs fine, I won't drive it unless I have to though) I don't want to leave that stripped screw in the TB plate for long for fear it may cause some major problems in the future.

My question is where do I fine a replacement screw for that? Will any screw work? or does it need to be some special TB screw? Also, just how risky is it to drive this thing should I not even try, I had to today out of necessity I don't want to drive it but should I be considering a rental car until I get it fixed or not.

You should be fine with only one screw, but you will want to get it fixed. You will have to drill it out and then use a EZout.

ive been to a couple junk yards that will some times let you just take some little things like that if you go out and get it yourself.

From the look of the pic its the plate itself thats threaded not the shaft correct?

Pull the second screw off then the plate with the broken old screw should come off and be easy to get out.

It'* the shaft that'* threaded. I might have some stuff laying around, but not sure when I will have time to go look.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check out my local pick-n-pull to see if i can find some screws. I noticed its the same sized screw that the IAC valve uses.

And Danthurs is right, it'* the shaft that is threaded.

Ask how much at your local pick/pull for the entire TB. Might be $15 and that'* not worth touching a drill for.

Mission Accomplished! Took a little fighting, but I got the broken screw out and a new screw in.
