Girlfriend has a 98 Malibu. Every now and then, when she goes to turn the key, the security light will come on and the car will not start for 10 minutes.

What security system is in the Malibu? VATS?
Is there a reasoning to why it randomly comes on?
Is there a way around it?

Who knows, i mean u can google the security system in it but as far as the light and the not starting that is weird. I owned a 97 malibu that had aftermarket locks and it would randomly lock and unlock itsself without any button being pressed lol

There is a way to bypass it. IIRC you can either cut a wire or solder in a resistor.
