Default Burned on E-bay

I guy I work wanted sell his wife'* 1998 Toyota 4Runner. He didn't have an Ebay account, so I said I would sell it for him. Placed the ad on Ebay and had no bids but 15 watchers. opening bid was 2k, reserve $3200. A bid came in for 3,000, and a minute later 3,200, from the same guy. This now displayed the reserve price. I was surprised someone would bid so high with 5 days left in the auction, so I checked out the guy. Member of Ebay for 16 months, yet no feedback.

Today I received notice he canceled the bid. Stated he entered wrong bid amount. My guess is uses one screen name to identified reserve price. Now the reserve price is (was) displayed to all.

Changed the ad to state bidders with less than 3 feedbacks must contact me prior to bidding.

Remember when Ebay use to be cheap to sell on and people were sincere..........

Ebay has become a rip off. I've had better luck with craigslist.

i got screwed on my new front fascia bought it for $80 plus $60 shipping was marketed as new 00-05 front bumpercover for ssei received it 2 weeks later from the post office had been squeezed together at the ends to fit within shipping guidelines for parcel post in turn which had broken 3 tabs and put gouges in the face cause it was basically wrapped in a plastic trash bag with no cushion anywhere to be found!!!! took pictures of how it was recieved and as i removed the plastic found that it used to be the color of dan'* car (now black primer) found the 3 broken tabs and took pictures also found a GM part # on it and could see where it had been repaired. contacted the seller about my findings and he continued to claim that it was new never used even with the picture evidence and told me i could ship it back and he would refund me my $80 i looked around at shipping it bac and got these for prices
ups $172
abf freight $352
fedex $984
post office TOO BIG will not ship

so i told him that it was cheaper for me to fix it than ship it back so i have been fixing it for the last 2 weeks looks good now just needs painting

needless to say the guy got negative feedback and suspended from ebay

so why does that make you burned? so he reveled the reserve (if that was really his intention) why does it matter, if its going to sell it'll sell. and besides if you vehicle doesn't sell you don't owe anything anyways. report him to eBay and they will review his account, bids. etc.

The only thing I've been "burned" on is trying to save money to get it cheaper; which has pretty much always cost me more in the long run because of cheap japan made crap. Now when a wheel bearing goes bad I don't spend $50 on ebay for something that will last 2 weeks, I just spend $90 on a Timken that I can put faith in.

I can say my BEST piece of advice for eBay is... Ask Around, do your research. always look at feedback. and Always Pay with PAYPAL..

I guess I felt burned as I paid $15 to list it- you have to pay extra for the reserve. If I wanted the reserve known, I would of published it. Often towards the end of bidding pride gets into it and people pay more than they planned on. A early revealed reserve then retracted can lead potential buyers to raw certain conclusions like something is wrong with the vehicle pricing, etc. Hopefully the way you view it is correct... I just feel that this dude was not a sincere buyer, just a player and Ebay really has no intent to stop it. There is no way to leave feedback on this guy, etc.

I would send them a gripe stating this guy drove the price to where it discontinued activity and bailed. And you shouldn't be charged the re-listing charge. They can be very approachable.
